Hong Kong passport photo size & rules
The HKSAR passport is issued by the Immigration Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and its photo requirements follow international standards used at automated border gates. A conforming photo is 35mm wide and 45mm tall, showing the applicant face-on with a plain and light-coloured background, ideally white. The head should be centred and sized so that the distance from chin to crown occupies most of the frame, typically around 32mm to 36mm, giving immigration officers a clear view of the face.
Hong Kong passport holders enjoy broad visa-free access, so photo quality carries weight when the document is read overseas. The image must be sharp, in natural colour, and free of red-eye, reflections, or shadows across the face and background. Applicants should keep a neutral expression with the mouth closed, look straight at the lens, and ensure hair does not fall over the eyes. Ordinary glasses are discouraged if they cause glare, and hats or head coverings should be avoided unless worn for genuine religious observance.

Standards are occasionally revised, so please verify the latest official requirements with the Immigration Department of the HKSAR before you have the photo printed or attach it to an application.
