Australia passport photo size & rules
Australian passport photos use the 35x45mm format, equal to 413x531 pixels at 300 dpi. The Australian Passport Office, part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), asks that the face fills a specific proportion of the frame: the height of the head from chin to crown should be between 32mm and 36mm. Getting the head too small is the most frequent cause of rejection, so the crop needs to be generous around the face without cutting off the top of the head.
The background must be plain white or light grey with even lighting and no shadows behind or beside the head. Face the camera directly with a neutral expression, mouth closed and eyes open, and make sure your face is not tilted or turned. Australia is relatively strict about glasses: they should be removed unless required for medical reasons, and there must be no reflection, glare, or frames covering the eyes. Head coverings are only accepted for religious or medical reasons, and the full face must remain visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead.
Pixohub formats your Australian passport photo to 413x531 pixels entirely in your browser, so the image is never uploaded, giving you genuine privacy for a sensitive document, and the tool is free. DFAT and the Australian Passport Office update their photo standards periodically, and quality checks at lodgement can be rigorous. Always confirm the current requirements on passports.gov.au before you print or submit, so a minor detail does not hold up your application.
